Utility Week Live is an annual supplier event in which utility sector leaders come together to showcase innovations. The event hosts a wide variety of organisations with the opportunity to attend workshops and participate in industry challenges.

This year, the Institute of Water, which provides a support network for water industry suppliers and utility companies, hosted a ‘skill challenge’ for young people undertaking apprentice schemes. OnSite Pipelines currently has seven young people on their apprentice scheme who are doing very well in their L2 NCO Water NVQ programme. Supported by Watertrain Ltd, they are learning many new skills to become the next generation of skilled water workers.

The skills challenge tasks included installing an encapsulation collar on a test rig, quick-fire leak noise identification, removing a polyurethane cover from a chemical hose dosing system and a digital design challenge!

As you can see the apprentices did very well in their challenges! Supported by their Manager Mick Clark, the group were able to see other aspects of the supply chain in action, broadening their knowledge of the industry.

The video shows the great work the apprentices did representing OnSite, with Mick Clark OnSite support manager saying: “Our team of apprentices did very well in all of the challenges. They really worked hard and put on a good show. They are a credit to our business. Attending Utilities Week Live allowed the team to see many aspects of the supply chain throughout the event hall.”

OnSite Pipelines is committed to encouraging young people to enter the water industry as it can offer such a wide variety of roles both office and field based. It is our intention to recruit more talent to help the business meet demand and grow into a leading services provider in the sector, as well as help us diversify into new markets such as ground source heat extraction and mains and civil engineering projects.

Demetrius, one of our apprentices said the following about his training: “The course is going really well; it is clear and straight forward. If we have any issues or queries, there is always support. We always recap on previous lessons to help us retain the information which is good. It is well structured and organised.”

Due to the success of the programme, OnSite Pipelines will be looking to implement another apprentice recruitment campaign later this year so, if you’re interested, please contact us at recruitment@south-staffordshire.com.
