OnSite Rail colleagues came together recently to remember a former colleague with a fundraising golf day.

The golf day is organised yearly to raise money for charity in memory of site supervisor, Scott Tharme, who sadly took his own life in 2017, aged just 43 years old.

This year’s event took place on Saturday 22 June at Sherfield Oaks Golf Club in Hampshire to raise funds for The Church Crookham Men’s Shed.

The Church Crookham Men’s Shed is a place for men who may be struggling, to come together and gain support from each other. The Shed also teaches the group basic carpentry skills with the opportunity to carry out projects for local community-based groups, such as cubs, scouts, brownies, churches and village halls.

The day was supported brilliantly by a mixture of OnSite Rail colleagues and friends and raised over £800 for the charity. Funds raised on the day were topped up further with various other sweepstake events such as the Euros and darts, which were all generously supported by the staff at OnSite Rail’s Fleet office.

Scott’s brother Dean, a project manager at OnSite Rail, commented: “Male suicide is the biggest killer of men under 45 years, and I never realised how prominent it was until it affected me directly. The Church Crookham Men’s Shed is a great charity to help men who may be struggling. They could be going through a divorce, a separation, the loss of a loved one, or just generally facing a difficult time in their lives and need a bit of support.

“With the money raised last year, The Shed was able to pay the electric bill for the whole year and buy new equipment. I hope the funds raised this year will help make a difference and get someone the help and companionship that everyone deserves.” To find out more about The Church Crookham and Fleet Men’s Shed, or to support this worthy cause and donate, please visit: Support Us | Men’s Shed New (ccandfmensshed.org.uk)
