OnSite, South Staffordshire PLC’s national specialist waterways maintenance and repair business, has been awarded a contract to supply a fully managed temporary dam service to the Canal & River Trust.

The Canal & River Trust is the charity working to protect and bring to life an historic network of canals and rivers across England and Wales, spanning 2,000 miles, and touching millions of lives every day.

The 3+2 year framework agreement will utilise OnSite’s expertise in temporary dam solutions, enabling the Canal & River Trust to safely carry out vital maintenance works to its infrastructure below the normal water level.

David Wedgbury, PortaDam Operations Manager at OnSite commented: “Winning this tender means a lot to the team at OnSite, not only is it a continuation of the excellent relationship we’ve had with the Canal & River Trust for over thirty years now, it’s also one of our core business competencies. Our specialist service provision of temporary dams helps create safe, dry, working areas for our clients so they can undertake essential maintenance and repairs. Our PortaDam system is one of the most trusted solutions on the market and has been successfully deployed on thousands of projects, and we’re proud to continue supporting the great work of the Canal & River Trust.”

As part of the framework agreement, OnSite will be required to supply a fully managed service for the provision of temporary dams. This includes the responsibility to conduct pre-site visits as well as the installation, certification, inspection, maintenance, repairs, ongoing safety audit, and demobilisation of dams.  The OnSite team will also provide a comprehensive programme of training to Canal & River Trust colleagues in the safe operation of the dams.

Dean Davies, Head of Direct Services, from the Canal & River Trust added: “We are proud to look after the finest network of industrial heritage in the world for today and for future generations and we strive to make sure our precious canals and rivers are open and ready for use, all day, every day. That would not be possible without all the hard work that our teams of colleagues, contractors and volunteers carry out each year maintaining and repairing the thousands of bridges, locks, aqueducts and other structures in our care. The award of this contract to OnSite is a key part of this work, and we are delighted that they will continue to provide temporary dam solutions for the Trust over the term of this new contract, extending an already positive and professional working partnership”.
